The Carroll and Milton Petrie Foundation - Biography

The Carroll and Milton Petrie Foundation is a private, independent grantmaking foundation that began active operation in 2002. The Foundation's mission arises from the belief that education is the key to realizing an individual's potential and his or her ability to become an active, productive and engaged participant in a democratic society.

The Foundation focuses on increasing student access, persistence and success at the City University of New York [CUNY], particularly at community colleges. We work in four areas of grant-making:

- Emergency Student Grant Funds. The Carroll and Milton Petrie Emergency Student Grant Funds that have helped thousands of students.

- Improving and reforming remediation in mathematics.

- To work with non-profits and colleges to increase student access to college and to persist and succeed there.

- To build and expand career/education pathways for students that provide multiple ways to achieve educational goals and obtain a successful career path.
